Her Contact Point Online Female Event – Empowering female coaches in Sussex
We are delighted to bring this LTA-backed initiative to Sussex. This is a female-coach-only forum designed both to connect you with fellow female coaches in the county as well as jointly tackling the challenges that matter most to you as women working in a male-dominated profession.
This is an online interactive session on Tuesday November 24th at 10am, lasting 90 minutes. The forum will provide you with the opportunity to:
- Understand more about the current landscape for female coaches across the county and country
- Listen to an inspirational keynote speaker and iconic female coach
- Join 2 breakout sessions to dive into the detail of hot topics that are likely to be relevant to your coaching career
- Secure 1 CPD point for independent learning.
The Sussex Forum will feature a Q and A session with Julie Hobbs – a widely respected former professional player, British number 1, and current Head Coach (worked with Sonay Kartal, and also Alicia Dudeney and Tiana Fox who are now playing on the ITF tour)
The Breakout rooms, where you will share ideas with each other, are based on the following areas:
- She Calls It Out: exploring the truth about coaching as a female in a male dominated profession & what can be done to create change. In this breakout session, participants will pool their experiences and the challenges that they have faced in the coaching world specifically related to not only the 23%/77% split between female and male coaches, but also in situations where most of the senior decision makers are male, and the varied needs of women with different ambitions in the sport may be overshadowed. What needs to change to attract and retain more women in coaching at all levels, and how do we achieve this.
- The Day Session: considering alternative coaching roles and income sources for coaches with primary care responsibilities or other reasons avoiding on court work or a traditional coach’s working hours. In this breakout session, the participants will explore together how they balance other responsibilities whilst maintaining a successful career as a tennis coach. They will discuss daytime coaching opportunities at all levels such as open Court projects, in school sessions, walking tennis; and share ideas for short or long term ways to supplement their income with off court work in the industry, such as administration of programmes, social media projects, or other business ideas.
We would love to see EVERY female tennis coach in Sussex at this forum.
The greater the attendance the bigger the network we create!
